Tonight I will rendez-vous with my precious family at my sister’s cottage down by the river and, after much merriment and laughter, we will begin our beautiful New Year’s tradition.

Our Magical Tradition

We each take time to write our New Year wishes on special paper, allowing ourselves to connect with our abundance. We then fold up the paper and place it safely on our handmade cardboard little boats.

We then wrap up in our coats and each take an outdoor lantern to light our way as we walk out into the night.

Underneath a perfectly starlit sky we walk past the cottage, over the sweet little bridge and down to the riverside.

Then we each light our tealight candles and place them inside our little boat of wishes.

Lit up, we let them go and watch quietly as all of our little lights bob slowly down the river.

With our wishes released to the night all we need to do is believe it will all happen for us.

Proof That It Really Works?

A few years ago, I made a copy of my wishes for that year so that I could always remember what I had floated down the river. It turns out that over 80% of the wishes came true!

I strongly believe in the power of writing down set intentions or writing your wishes. Once an idea is formed in your mind, you are 9/10ths of the way to making it a reality.

There was in fact a Harvard Business study done in relation to exactly this which showed the following:-

The study found that the 14% who have goals are 10 times more successful than those without goals.

The 3% with written goals are 3 times more successful than the 14% with unwritten goals.

Your New Year Wishes

So take a minute tonight to connect with yourself and get dreaming. Write it all down.

What would you like to release from this last year?

What would you like more of this year?

What will bring you joy and make your heart sing?

How could you be more you?

What could you change to live more authentically?

What is it that makes you truly happy?

I hope the stars shine brightly for you tonight.

With all my love

Jess

  2. That’s a really cool tradition. I’d love to do something like this because it sounds like fun. Plus if most of your goals seem to be coming true, then there might be something to this. I’m a believer in writing down your goals too. I may not put them in a boat with a candle, but I do write them down. Over the years many have come true, but I haven’t actually looked over them enough to see what percentage. Apparently the writer of Dilbert, Scott Adams, is a believer in writing down goals too. I seem to remember hearing him say once that he always writes them down, no matter how far-fetched they seem to be. Well, he swears by them and he’s accomplished quite a bit.

    1. I am not familiar with Scott Adams so thank you for telling me about him. I look forward to reading about him. Setting intentions is so powerful- I don’t know how it works but it just does!

The river tonight is overflowing and too dangerous to go down to in the dark tonight so we will instead be burning the wishes with our candles and releasing them to stars. A little different but equally as beautiful.

Whatever you do tonight I hope you have such a special time Steve.

      With love
      Jess
